From Austin to Austria: Professor Latinx Scholarship & Comics Go Global

Special exhibit at University of Salzburg showcases the emotional power and artistic innovation of Latinx comics

The University of Salzburg has turned its gallery walls into a vivid celebration of Latinx storytelling, featuring the graphic novel work of Professor Frederick Luis Aldama, holder of the Jacob & Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities at The University of Texas at Austin.

Bettina Egger and Agustín Corti’s curated exhibition, "BorderLines – Emotions | LatinX-Comics | Aldama," opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony on November 26, 2025. The show transforms the Austrian university's gallery space into an immersive journey through the visual and narrative landscapes of Latinx experience, displaying enlarged comic panels that invite viewers to step inside worlds where borders—geographic, emotional, linguistic, and temporal—become sites of both conflict and creative possibility.
